Summary:
The objective of this FEA is to performed design evaluation of centrifugal pump
assembly which is installed on FPSO as per API 610. Centrifugal pumps are widely used in oil and
gas industry and are subjected to various loads during operation. The most
common loads are self-weight, Internal pressure, Nozzle loads, and the Motion
loads. These loads will have a direct effect on the functionality of the pump
and FEA plays an important role in the design evaluation to comply with the
industrial codes such as API 610.
Scope:
The
objective of this FEA is to perform stress analysis on Pump casing and Pump
support during operating condition and results evaluation as per API 610
industrial code
Methodology:
Pump
assemblies are subjected to complex static and dynamic loads during the operating
conditions. The main static loads on the centrifugal pump assembly are the Self-weight, Internal pressure, Nozzle loads, and Motion loads, the base frame and
the casing should be able to withstand these loads. Motion loads are due to the
FPSO linear and rotational accelerations, Linear static structural analysis is
performed to evaluate the worst motion loads for a set of 128 load cases. Bases
on the worst-case motion load combination, the pump assembly is evaluated for
the Internal pressure of (1.9 MPa) Self-weight and 2x API nozzle loads. Stress
results are evaluated against the allowable stress limit as per API 610. Bolt
and weld connections are evaluated as per Eurocode
Conclusion:
Stress
results are evaluated and compared against the acceptance stress limit as per
API 610. Bolt and weld connections are evaluated as per Eurocode and
utilizations are tabulated. Further, the pump design is evaluated for dynamic
loading.
